Chickasaw County EMS to Transition to Onsite Crew Quarters

A remodel that has taken less time than it did for officials to greenlight the project becomes more real this week.
The two New Hampton-based ambulances of the Chickasaw County EMS have been housed at their headquarters on Prospect Street since last summer. However, the County has been renting space offsite longer than that for quarters to host crew members on call.
That’s about to change now that remodeling of their main facility is almost complete, with move-in slated by the end of this week, according to EMS Director Joel Knutson.
In addition to living quarters for crew members on call, the remodel also includes office space and a breakroom.
Knutson told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday they plan to have everyone under one roof by the end of this week, although some minor work remains.
With that transition, Supervisors directed Knutson to develop a policy on whether crews on call are required to be in the EMS building versus being allowed to be on call from home if they live in New Hampton.Â
Knutson said he would draft a plan with the recommendation of a policy with a middle ground.
