Memorial Day Programs Honor Those Who Died in Service

VFW Post #3914 in Charles City honored fallen veterans during a Memorial Day Monday (05.27) morning, highlighted by a speech from Post Commander Denny Hull.

Hull added that the price was also high for families of the fallen.

In New Hampton, American Legion Fae Stine Post 38 hosted Memorial Day ceremonies at the Chickasaw County Courthouse, where Post Commander Brian Quirk introduced a special salute to eight New Hampton graduates who all left for military service in June of 1969.

New Hampton High School speech students read a summary of each veteran, including Carrie Schwickerath, who talked of the important responsibilities of Glen Brummond, who was only 17 when he was stationed at an Army post in Alaska.

The other seven honored include Tom Galligan, Terry Shannon, Ken Seery, Tom Finnegan, Paul Hibbs, Duane Lampson and Bob Eishied.

Quirk also presented a certificate for 50 years of continuous service to the American Legion to the family of veteran Donnie Schwickerath, who passed away earlier this year.
