High Water, Yes, High Water, Stalling Bridge Projects

In the wake of months of extreme drought, high water, yes, high water has caused recent delays to various bridge projects in the Charles City area.

Iowa DOT bridge replacement projects are currently in progress on Highway 14 over Flood Creek near Roseville as well as on Highway 18 over Winters Lake Overflow, near the Ionia turnoff.

The DOT’s Pete Hjelmstad says both are in holding patterns, waiting for water levels to recede in the respective waterways.

Hjelmstad says those projects should still be able to absorb any delays the high water levels have brought on.

Hjelmstad says the Cedar River is also slowing down the bridge overlay project on Highway 218 in Floyd, which is about halfway complete.

With the summer travel season set to start soon, Hjelmstad also encourages motorists to check for road construction projects and updates in advance of traveling at www.511ia.org or on the 511ia app.
