Charles City Water Tower Honors Past, Present Police Officers

The Charles City water tower on Corporate Drive will be lit up in blue on Wednesday (05.15) for National Police Memorial Day. Â
The City asks that if you see a police officer, deputy or state trooper, please let them know you appreciate them.
As a precursor to National Police Week, the names of former Algona Police officer Kevin Cram and Des Moines Police officer Phoukham Tran were added to the Iowa Peace Officer Memorial last Friday (05.10) in Des Moines.Â
Cram was shot and killed last September serving an arrest warrant for 43-year-old Kyle Ricke of Algona, accused of his murder.
Tran died in November after a long struggle to recover from being struck by a drunk driver as he directed traffic outside the Iowa State Fair in 2011.Â
Governor Kim Reynolds said both men were fathers, husbands and amazing individuals.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week, a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.
