St. Pat’s Weekend $500,000-Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Mason City Still Unclaimed

Almost two-months after a winning Powerball ticket worth $500,000 was sold in north Iowa, the prize remains unclaimed.

The Iowa Lottery says the winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Star at 1502 South Federal Avenue on March 16th. Whoever scored the $500,000 did so with the new Double Play® option, which made its Iowa debut in November in the Powerball game.

In the case of the Mason City ticket, someone matched the first five numbers, but missed the Powerball. However, with the Double Play, the ticket was good for a $500,000 prize; the only ticket in the country to win $500,000 in that night’s drawing.

Lottery officials say it’s the largest prize currently unclaimed in Iowa and will expire on September 12th if the prize is not claimed in time. The winner must claim their $500,000 prize at lottery headquarters in Clive.

Meanwhile, the Iowa Lottery says a $50,000 Powerball prize won in Des Moines back on December 16th will expire June 13th if it isn’t claimed in time.
