Grand Opening for NIACC Charles City Career Academy Set

Grand opening of the NIACC Career Academy in Charles City is set for next week.

That’s NIACC President Steve Schulz, who says students from seven area school districts will be able to take advantage of the academy.

Schulz says initial CTE courses include healthcare, construction, IT and advanced manufacturing, although more collaboration is possible down the road.

A grand opening for the Career Academy is scheduled for Friday, May 10th, with a program at 10:30 am followed by tours of the facility.

During their meeting April 22nd, the Charles City School Board heard a report that only 10 of the school district’s allotted 32 seats at the academy had been filled despite numerous emails, phone calls and other efforts to get students signed up when the new school year starts in August.

Officials expect that interest will grow once junior, sophomore, and Innovative Campus students can tour the career academy.
