Osage Woman Wins “Best in Show” of Area Show: 49 Art Competition, Exhibition

A charcoal drawing by an Osage woman has been selected “Best in Show” of the Area Show: 49 competition at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City.  

The exhibition competition was open to all artists above high school age within 100 miles of Mason City. All entrants were able to submit up to two works of any media. This year’s show drew a total of 99 entries by 53 artists and the final exhibition includes 41 works by 38 artists.

With the Best in Show award handed out Saturday (04.20) for her piece, The Praying Man, Mary Ann Marreel of Osage will be granted a solo exhibition at the museum in 2025. 

Artists receiving $250 Excellence Awards include Larry Gregson and Kirk Ketelson, both of Mason City, and Lori Biwer-Stewart of Osage.

The Area Show: 49 will remain on view in the Museum’s Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery through June 19th.
