Charles City Schools, Police Prep for Active Shooter Drill

Last November, a possible threat forced the Charles City High School and Middle School into a “soft lockdown” while Charles City Police investigated the matter.

CCPD was able to quickly identify the student involved, who said the threat was meant as a joke. Fortunately, the threat wasn’t real.

Still, officials want to be prepared for more dangerous situations with special exercises later this month.

That’s School District Superintendent Anne Lundquist touching on the drill during the February 26th School Board meeting.

Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson says his officers won’t know ahead of the time what direction the active shooter exercise will take.

In preparation, CCPD asks people to lend or donate paintball masks.

On top of teaming up for the active shooter drill, Lundquist also noted additional partnerships with CCPD to increase safety and security throughout the district.

Lundquist says the district also continues regular training for teachers and staff in conjunction with its Crisis and Life Safety Advisory Council.
