Charles City’s White Finishes Second at State Bowling

It’s a state runner-up finish for Charles City in the Boys Class 1A Individual State Bowling Tournament.

The Comets’ Noah White advanced to the championship match at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo Wednesday (02.21), but lost to Vinton-Shellsburg’s Vann Lessig, who rolled a 262 to White’s pin total of 212.

After advancing out of the preliminary round into the final eight, the sixth-seeded White beat third-seeded Jack Mastbergen of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in the quarterfinals and then second-seeded Malcomb Clark of Monticello in the semifinals. Lessig was the eighth seed.

New Hampton’s Jamison Porath and Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Carlos Sanchez also qualified.

In the Girls 1A Individual State Bowling Tournament, Charles City’s Claire Girkin advanced to the final eight, but lost in the quarterfinals to Georgie Bohnet of Council Bluffs St. Albert by 16 pins.

Also competing in the girl state bowling tournament were Charles City’s Kinleigh Bahe, Darian Hesse and Payton Hadley, plus Denver’s Alivia Boger.

Both the Comets boys and girls placed fifth in 1A team state bowling Tuesday (02.20).
