Future of Charles City’s Wildwood Clubhouse Still Up in The Air

The clubhouse at Wildwood Municipal Golf Course in Charles City was built some 100 years ago.

To no surprise, the building is showing its age, which has City officials, including Mayor Dean Andrews, contemplating the approach to its future.

Andrews says the City has also asked Atura Architecture of Clear Lake to assess costs related to the location of the clubhouse.

Although no action was taken, the City Council discussed the costs to addresings the future of the Wildwood Clubhouse during a planning session Wednesday (02.14) night.

Preliminary estimates put building a new clubhouse at upwards of $2 million, while renovating the facility could run up to $2.4 million.

City officials also note, even if they move forward with renovations, the existing clubhouse would likely be torn down for the most part and rebuilt. This would give the same look, but not much would be left of the original building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
