Kenneth “Ken” Rowley, 80, Charles City

Kenneth “Ken” Rowley, 80, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at his daughter’s home under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

A memorial service for Ken Rowley will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Kenneth “Ken” Jay Rowley, the son of Rubert and Maxine (Sturdivant) Rowley, was born November 23, 1943 in Charles City, Iowa. He graduated from Colwell High School in 1961. Ken was united in marriage to Mary Chapin on June 14, 1964 in New Hampton, Iowa. He farmed 80 acres near Colwell and installed carpet for Sylvester Furniture. Ken installed carpet for over 50 years with he and Mary owning and operating Rowley Carpet Services outside of Charles City for 20 years before retiring in 2009.

Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Tim. He also liked playing cards, dancing (every week/whenever possible, especially two-step and polka), sweets (donuts and cookies), Busch Light, spending winters in Texas, watching old western TV shows (Rifleman and John Wayne) and watching marathons of Walker Texas Ranger when they were on TV.

Living family members include his daughter, Rachael (Barry) Kelly of Nora Springs; son, Tim Rowley of Charles City; grandchildren: Brianna (Jameson) Long of Cedar Rapids, Alyssa (Edward) Davies of Greenville, Wisconsin and Spencer Kelly (fiancée Madison Werner) of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandchildren: Asher Long, Violet Long, Berkley Davies, Hudson Davies and Cooper Davies; special friend of 13 years, Marjo Grimm of Osage; and sister, Shirley Nordman of Ottumwa.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary (Chapin) Rowley; parents, Maxine Lomison and Rubert Rowley; step-father, Lawrence Lomison; and brother-in-law, Russell Nordman.
