Chickasaw County Wind Farm Generating Electricity

All 66 wind turbines that comprise the Chickasaw Wind Energy Center north of New Hampton have been operational since the end of December.
Still, Adam Jablonski, vice-president of project development for MidAmerican Energy, says they’re going through the “break-in†period of making adjustments, maintainance and troubleshooting the new turbines.
If the turbines are in working order and there’s sufficient wind, turbines are likely to be spinning and generating electricity, although Jablonski notes there can be too much wind for turbine operation.
And while erection of the wind turbines is complete and they’re operational, Jablonski says their work is not finished.
Jablonski says the Chickasaw Wind Energy Center can generate up to 202 megawatts of electricity over the course of a year, enough to supply power to about 70,000 homes.
