Nashua City Council Looks to Fill Open Seat

The City of Nashua is looking for a resident to step into an open seat on the City Council.

Last month, the Council  officially appointed Harold Kelleher as Mayor. Kelleher had stepped into the role of “acting” Mayor in October after then-Mayor Alex Anthofer resigned effective immediately, citing family as his reason to leave office.

At the time, Kelleher was Mayor Pro Tempore and then he won re-election to another term on the City Council before he was officially appointed Mayor to serve out the remaining two years of Anthofer’s term. That, in turn, opened up his seat on the City Council.

Anyone interested in filling the open Council seat can contact City Hall and submit a written statement explaining why you would like to be considered. Another option is to attend the Council meeting on Monday, January 15, to make your case to be appointed and serve the remainder of Kelleher’s term, which runs until December 31, 2025.

City Clerk John Ott says it would be best to express your interest in advance with the Council expected to make an appointment at Monday’s night meeting.

Still, any eligible voter in Nashua could file a petition to force a special Council election, but it must be filed within 14 days of the appointment.
