Tuesday (01.02) night’s New Hampton City Council meeting will be the first session presided over by new Mayor Steve Geerts.
A former New Hampton Fire Chief and former Chickasaw County Supervisor, Geerts defeated incumbent Mayor Bobby Schwickerath in the November election to win the position. After being elected New Hampton’s Mayor in 2019, Schwickerath held the Mayor’s office for one term, from January of 2020 through December 2023.
In addition to Geerts, Deb Larson joins the New Hampton City Council Tuesday night after she won the Ward 1 seat by write-in vote in November. She replaces Cory McDonald who opted not to seek re-election. Larson is also expected to be appointed Mayor Pro-Tem during the Council meeting, which starts at 7 pm.
While the New Hampton City Council meets one night later than normal because of the January 1st holiday, the Charles City City Council will meet Wednesday (01.03) night at 6 pm.
