Sharon K. King, 78, Charles City

Sharon K. King, 78, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa with her loving family by her side.

A funeral service for Sharon King will be held at 2:30 on Thursday, December 21,2023 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Tim Moore officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Sharon Kay (Powell) King, the daughter of Ernest E Powell and Loretta A Reich was born on October 13, 1945 in Osage, Iowa. They lived in Nora Springs and rural Mason City growing up. Sharon graduated from Mason City High School in May of 1964.

On June 20, 1964 Sharon was united in marriage to Frederick G. King. They met roller skating and eventually eloped and were married in Laverne, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three girls: Sherry, Tricia, and Colleen.

Some of Sharon’s hobbies were cooking, baking, and feeding people along with camping, fishing, gardening, gambling, and most of all spending time with her grandkids: Renae, Alex and Rebecca (truly the lights of her life). She also had a love for animals: Red, Sadie, Penny, Teddy, Missy and several more. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family. “Sister Night” always put a smile on her face. All of the shenanigans they encountered during these times are always a good story to be told. She was known for making excellent potato salad, cheese balls, and chicken with biscuits.

Sharon is survived by three daughters: Sherry King (Todd Bates), Tricia (Troy) Bahlmann and Colleen (Shawn) Goddard; three grandchildren: Renae (Tom) Frieden, Alexander (Becca) Mitchell and Rebecca Bates; four step-grandchildren: Ashley Sanders, Ethan Bates, Jacob (Allison) Bates and Anna Bates; sisters: Pat Powell, Sandy Spencer, Mary (Dan) Blair, Jane Ritzert and Judy Reich; sister-in law, Darlys (Rick) Rogers; three brothers-in-law: Duane (Cleone) King, Wayne (Debbie) King and Cecil (Kathleen) King; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick G King; her parents, Ernest and Loretta Powell; father and mother-in-law, Marreld and Bernice King; brother, Roger Powell; brothers-in-law: Kurt Spencer and Lee Ritzert; nephews: Jim Powell and Jim Parish; sister-in-law, Leona Parish; and niece Jenny Tresch.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Nasstrom in Osage and 11th Street Chautauqua for all of the great care they provided for Sharon during her time with them.

Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, 1205 South Main Street, Charles City, Iowa 50616 is in charge of local arrangements. Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall for the family at www.hauserfh.com.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
