Charles City Seniors Will Need Fewer Credits to Graduate

Starting with the current school year, Charles City High School seniors will need only 48 credits to graduate next spring.

Over the past few months, school officials had been looking at reducing the graduation credits from the previous standard of 54 down to 50. During their regular meeting Monday (12.11) night, School Board president David Schrodt lobbied for 48 credits.

Superintendent Anne Lundquist noted that lowering the number of credits for graduation would also bring Charles City seniors closer to neighboring districts.

Lundquist added that while lowering the number of graduation credits will help get more students graduated, it also doesn’t prevent students from excelling in the classroom.

With Board member Josh Mack absent, the School Board voted 4-0 to approve changing the number of credits for graduation from 54 to 48, effective immediately.
