Learning Will Go On at CCHS Despite Defeat of $28.5 Million Bond

Charles City High School was built in 1960. It hasn’t had any major work done to it in the 63 years since.Â
That lack of upgrades figures to reach at least 65 years after voters last Tuesday (11.07) voted down a $28.5 million bond referendum to revitalize the building.
Superintendent Anne Lundquist says the school district could try for another bond again next November.
While the bond was voted down by a margin of 58% NO votes to 42% YES votes, Lundquist says many have seen the need for the High School improvements.
Still, Lundquist notes that regular PPEL funds are not enough to cover the new HVAC system and building remodeling that would come with a major overhaul to the building. The list of needs also includes improvements in school security.
For now, Lundquist says students will keep on learning and the district will try to mitigate facility repairs as best they can, piece by piece.
