Fundraising Will Send New Hampton Football Team to Playoff Game on Charter Bus

A fundraising campaign to send the New Hampton High School football team to their playoff game on a charter bus paid off in about an hour.

The Chickasaws will play at Spirit Lake this Friday night in a Class 2A, second-round, playoff game. It’s about a six-hour round trip from New Hampton to Spirit Lake and back.

Ryan Shawver, who’s son, Jack Shawver, is a senior on the New Hampton football team, posted on Facebook Monday (10.23) night looking to raise about $2,700 to pay for a charter bus to take the players and coaches to and from the game. A followup post indicated an “amazing response” raising the necessary funds in about 45 minutes.

Shawver, also the Chickasaw County Sheriff, says they raised about $3,700 in all, with the additional money going towards a pre- and post- game meal for the team and support staff. Any remaining funds will go into the Chickasaw Football program account.

Shawver also notes that he received the approval from New Hampton Head Coach Scott Frerichs and Superintendent Jay Jurrens to reach out to supporters for donations for a Hawkeye Stages bus for the team.

The Chickasaws enter Friday’s matchup with a 4-5 overall record, but have won four of their last five after an 0-4 start. Fifth-ranked Spirit Lake is 8-1 overall and on a seven-game winning streak.

You can follow the game on 95.1 The Bull with pre-game coverage starting at 6:15 pm with the Radio Iowa Scouting Report followed by the Holschlag Bin Sales Pre-Game Show at 6:30 pm and kickoff at 7 pm.
