Avenue of Saints Floyd Interchange Still Pacing for Pre-Thanksgiving Finish

Construction of the new west/northbound lanes of the Highway 218/18/Avenue of the Saints interchange at Floyd is still on target for completion in November.

Pete Hjelmstad is with the Mason City District Office of the Iowa DOT. He says paving of the main line of west/northbound lanes started Tuesday (10.17) and was expected to be completed Thursday (10.19). Still, there’s plenty to do to put the final pieces together. 

That is, barring any unforeseen developments.

Hjelmstad adds that rain last week slowed construction some, but the largely dry weather over the last few months has allowed the contractors, Cedar Valley Corporation of Waterloo, to progress steadily towards getting the interchange completed and open in all directions prior to Thanksgiving. 

While work on the new west/northbound lanes continues, traffic remains in a head-to-head pattern on the east/southbound lanes, which were constructed last year.
