Northeast Iowa Authorities “Have a Blast” Friday Afternoon
Bomb experts were “having a blast†in northeast Iowa Friday afternoon.
In a Facebook post, the Waverly Police Department said they received a request for assistance from a Waverly resident who located a box of old blasting caps in their basement. Discovered was a box wrapped in newspapers dated in the 1960’s. Items inside were left by the previous property owners over 60 years ago.
WPD then brought in assistance from the Waterloo Police Department Bomb Squad to help dispose of the blasting caps. Between 2 and 4 pm Friday afternoon, certified bomb disposal technicians set off the explosive devices in a controlled accessed field in southeast Waverly.
Their Facebook post also informed community members in Waverly and the surrounding area who may have heard the loud noise that “rest assured all is well.â€
