Handful of Burn Bans Remain in Place in North Iowa

There are still more than a half-dozen burn bans in place in north and northeast Iowa, including one county that reactivated its ban.
Buchanan County put a burn ban back in effect as of 4 pm Tuesday, adding to the list of State Fire Marshal burn bans that remain in effect until further notice for Bremer, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Grundy, Hancock, Worth and Wright counties. As of 7 pm Wednesday morning, there are a total of 16 county burn bans in effect in the state.
The burn bans state that “no person shall engage in open burning until such dangerous conditions to life or property no longer exist.â€
Grills and recreational fires are exempt from the burn ban, however, fire pits must have the proper cover to prevent the spread of embers.Â
Tuesday, Charles City Fire Rescue has also issued an advisory of the prevalence of Very High Cropland Fire Danger. A department Facebook post says, “The warm weather over the last few days has caused a resurgence of potential fire dangers. Just a reminder to everyone Floyd County is still under an open burn ban.â€
Coincidentally, Charles City Fire received a call for assistance from Floyd Fire to aid in extinguishing a field fire Tuesday afternoon, which was put out before spreading over a significant area or causing much damage.Â
