Retiree to Run for Mayor of New Hampton

A 15-year member of the New Hampton Board of Adjustment has tossed her hat in the ring to run for Mayor of New Hampton.
Mayor Bobby Schwickerath was elected Mayor in 2019 and took office in January of 2020. His current term expires December 31, 2023, and he is running for re-election.
One of his challengers is retiree, Melanie Schmitt, who says she can offer a steady hand in the Mayor’s office.
While Schmitt admits she hasn’t held an elected office before, she is ready to grow and learn as Mayor with the help of other City officials as well as constituents.
Schmitt adds that infrastructure projects including the water treatment plant and City streets are among the top issues facing New Hampton.
Also running for Mayor is former New Hampton Fire Chief and Chickasaw County Supervisor, Steve Geerts.
