A Missouri man has been charged in a northeast Iowa incident this past summer that resulted in one person dying.
On July 29th, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Domino Road by the Volga Campground on reports of an accident. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a truck driven by 24-year-old Tucker Baker of St. Joseph, Missouri had accelerated from a parked position at a high rate of speed with two passengers seated on the down tailgate. The two passengers, 24-year-old William Gross and 21-year-old Brett Gross, also from St. Joseph, Missouri, were ejected from the vehicle onto the concrete pavement.
Both were transported by Air Ambulance to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, where William Gross would die from his injuries on July 31st. Brett Gross was hospitalized and released at a later date.
Almost two months after the fatal incident, Baker has been charged in Clayton County with homicide by vehicle – reckless driving, a Class C felony; and serious injury by vehicle, a Class D felony.
