Teacher Input Vital to Design for Revitalization of Charles City High School

The Charles City School District is seeking voter approval of a $28.5 million bond referendum to revitalize Charles City High School.

School officials have also been seeking input from teachers on the potential final design to upgrade and improve a building that hasn’t had any major work done to it since it was built 63 years ago.

Superintendent Anne Lundquist says the interest level among the teachers has ramped up from when the bond referendum was a proposed idea to now actually being a measure headed to the polls.

One of the main targets for improved learning spaces is the building’s infamous “circles,” with preliminary designs calling for more windows to give the adjacent classrooms an open, larger feel.

Lundquist says the circles and the lack of inner windows for the classrooms also present safety concerns.

The bond referendum will require a 60% majority YES vote to pass on November 7th. If approved, about a third of the $28.5 million would go towards a new 800-seat performing arts auditorium.

More information and details for the bond referendum are available at www.charlescitybond.org and at www.charlescityschools.org.
