Charles City School Board Addresses Audit Frustration

Even if voters in the Charles City School District pass a $28.5 million bond referendum to revitalize Charles City High School this November, the school still has to be in good financial standing to move forward with the bonding process.

That includes getting its fiscal year ‘22 audit completed, which should have been done in February by Nolte, Cornman and Johnson, P.C. However, even with a state-granted extension to August 18th, the school district is still waiting for the finished audit.

During their regular meeting Monday (09.25) night, the Charles City School Board heard from Director of Finance Calli Boeckmann on the numerous attempts to get an answer from Nolte to no avail. Thus, the Board approved a resolution giving Nolte until October 1st to provide the completed audit. If not, the school could pursue legal action.

Superintendent Anne Lundquist says the audit must be completed, regardless of the potential passage of the bond referendum.

Even if Nolte completes the audit, the Board resolution will terminate their contract with Nolte, who has done the district’s audits since 2020.

The board then approved a new one-year contract with Anderson, Larkin & Company to conduct the fiscal year ‘23 audit.
