A pair of challengers have filed to run against Bobby Schwickerath in his bid for another term as the Mayor of New Hampton.
Schwickerath was elected Mayor in 2019 and took the office in January of 2020. His current term expires December 31, 2023.
Opposing Schwickerath this November will be Melanie Schmitt and former New Hampton Fire Chief and Chickasaw County Supervisor, Steve Geerts.
There will be at least two new members on the New Hampton City Council, but who those candidates will be is uncertain. The seats currently occupied by Councilmen Cory McDonald, Jason Speltz and Joe Denner are up for election in November, but only Denner filed nomination papers to run for re-election.Â
It may come down to write-in campaigns to fill out the other Council seats, which occurred in November 2021 when current councilwomen Kalista Porath-Daly and Mindy Casterton-Humpal were elected after the Councilmen who held those seats opted not to seek re-election.
