Community Meeting Tuesday (09.19) for $28.5 Million CCHS Bond Referendum

The Charles City School District is ramping up promotion of a $28.5 million bond referendum to revitalize Charles City High School.

Last month, the School Board voted to move ahead with putting the measure before voters this fall. If approved, about a third of the $28.5 million would go towards a new 800-seat performing arts auditorium, with other funds going to upgrades and facility improvements to a school building that hasn’t had any major work done to it since it was built 63 years ago.

A petition, to get the proposal on the ballot for the November 7th election, needed a minimum of 445 signatures from eligible voters in the district. The final total came at about 580 signatures.

To educate voters about the bond referendum, the school district will host a community meeting, “Revitalize: Planning for the Future of CCHS,” starting at 6 pm Tuesday (09.19) in the High School Cafeteria.

The bond referendum will require a 60% majority YES vote to pass.

More information and details for the bond referendum are available at www.charlescitybond.org and at www.charlescityschools.org.
