Trial Likely to be Rescheduled in Chickasaw County Murder Trial

A new trial date may be coming for a former Charles City resident accused of a north Iowa murder over 10 years ago.
51-year-old Randy Patrie is charged with first-degree murder in the October 2012 death of 70-year-old Carl Gallmeyer of Nashua. An investigation by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Charles City Police and Iowa DCI led to a search of Patrie’s Charles City home in July 2013. Authorities say several items owned by Gallmeyer were found inside the residence, including the gun believed used to kill him.
Patrie has pleaded not guilty and his trial is currently scheduled for October 18th in Chickasaw County District Court.
However, the defense has filed for a continuance in light of additional information in the case that prosecutors received from the DCI on September 8th. Thus, they need more time to fully process the info, since both parties believe the evidence to be relevant to the case. The defense motion also states that parties agree the matter (trial) should be continued.
No new trial date has been set.
Patrie remains in the Fayette County Jail in West Union awaiting trial.
