Burn Bans in Floyd, Chickasaw Counties, Others

With most of northeast Iowa in extreme drought, burn bans continue to rise across the region.

A burn ban went into effect at noon Thursday (09.07) in Floyd County, with burn bans in Chickasaw and Howard counties going into effect at noon Friday (09.08). 

The burn bans, approved by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, state, “no person shall engage in open burning until such dangerous conditions to life or property no longer exist.”

A burn ban for Cerro Gordo County went into effect at 5 pm Thursday (09.07), while burn bans in Bremer and Butler counties started at 6 am Thursday (09.07) morning. Buchanan, Hancock, Worth, Delaware and Fayette counties burn bans have been in place since Tuesday (09.05).  Grundy County’s burn ban went into effect Wednesday (09.06).

A partial burn ban is now in effect for Black Hawk County, including Gilbertville, Evansdale, La Porte City, Raymond, Dunkerton, Cedar Falls, and Hudson. 

As of 8:30 am Friday (09.08), 15 counties total in Iowa will have burn bans in effect or are scheduled to go into effect.
