Charles City High School Moves to Hybrid Learning Due to Heat

Due to the high temperatures expected next week, Charles City High School (CCHS) will operate on a “Hybrid” learning schedule.

Washington Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Charles City Middle School, and the Innovative Campus (Flex and Carrie Lane Programs) will conduct in-person classes as usual.

For high school students on Tuesday (09.05) and Thursday (09.07), Periods 1-4, will be taught in the morning as usual (in person) and periods 5-8 will be taught virtually in the afternoon. On Wednesday (09.06) and Friday (09.08), Periods 5-8, will be taught in the morning as usual (in person) and periods 1-4 will be taught virtually in the afternoon.

Completion of the virtual classes will serve as the means for recording student attendance.

On all four days, high school students will be free to leave at noon to take virtual classes from home or in the CCMS commons. Lunch will be served as usual in all school buildings and all bus routes will run on their regular schedules next week.

The school district says the Freshman Retreat will go on as scheduled next Thursday (09.07) at the Floyd County Fairgrounds in an airconditioned facility, with transportation provided.

Charles City Middle School players will practice in the morning, with high school players practicing in the evening next.

September 5-8, 2023

Due to the high temperatures expected next week, Charles City High School (CCHS) will operate on a “Hybrid” learning schedule. Washington Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Charles City Middle School, and the Innovative Campus (Flex and Carrie Lane Programs) will conduct classes as usual.

CCHS Class Schedule Changes:

  • Tuesday and Thursday:
    • Periods 1-4, will be taught in the morning as usual (in person) and periods 5-8 will be taught virtually in the afternoon.
    • Students will be free to leave at 12:00 noon, to take virtual classes from home or in the CCMS commons.
  • Wednesday and Friday:
    • Periods 5-8, will be taught in the morning as usual (in person) and periods 1-4 will be taught virtually in the afternoon.
    • Again, students will be free to leave at 12:00 noon, take virtual classes from home or in the CCMS commons.
  • Attendance:
    • Completion of the virtual classes will serve as the means for recording student attendance.
  • Freshman Retreat:
    • Will take place as scheduled, all day on Thursday, at the Fairgrounds in an airconditioned facility, with transportation provided.

Football Practice Schedules:

  • CCMS players will practice in the morning.
  • CCHS players will practice in the evening.
  • Coaches will provide players with details on the practice schedules.

Staff Schedules:

All CCHS staff members will be required to report to work as per their regular hours. Some instructional aides/paras may be asked to supervise students at CCMS during the afternoon virtual learning sessions.

Lunch and Transportation Schedules:

  • All bus routes will run on their regular schedules.
  • Lunch will be served as usual in all buildings.
