Security at IUB/Summit Pipeline Hearing Catches Some by Surprise
Witness testimony at the Summit Carbon Solutions’ carbon pipeline permit hearing continues this week in Fort Dodge.
The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) concluded the first three days of proceedings last week. Initial testimony comes from landowners who have not signed voluntary easements along the proposed route for Summit’s almost 700 miles of underground carbon capture pipeline in Iowa. The company will seek eminent domain to secure the remaining land easements for construction.
Floyd County Supervisors Chair Mark Kuhn attended the Wednesday (008.23) session to hear Charles City Area Development Corporation Executive Director Tim Fox express concerns over Summit’s proposed pipeline route through the Avenue of the Saints Development Park on the City’s southside.
During Monday’s (08.28) Board of Supervisors meeting, Kuhn also said the level of security for the proceedings caught him off guard.
Kuhn didn’t speak at the IUB hearing himself, but was a guest of attorney Tim Whipple with Ahlers and Cooney, PC, which is representing a handful of counties, including Floyd, Butler and Bremer in efforts to intervene with Summit’s permit application to build its carbon pipeline in Chickasaw, Floyd, Mitchell, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Hancock and Franklin counties among others.Â
Testimony will conclude for the week on Thursday (08.31) and is slated to continue next Tuesday (09.05), Wednesday(09.06), and Thursday (09.07) at the Cardiff Event Center in Fort Dodge.Â
