Floyd County Eyed By Pipelines and Wind Turbines

Floyd County, already being targeted by two carbon capture pipeline companies, may also be eyed by a pair of new wind turbine projects.

During their regular meeting Monday, Aug. 21, Floyd County Supervisors heard from Tom Treharne with NextEra Energy, which has begun seeking easements with landowners for the Rudd Wind turbine farm in the northwest section of the County.

Those attending the Supervisors’ meeting asked how NextEra will deal with their underground transmission lines crossing with the underground carbon capture pipelines proposed by Summit Carbon Solutions and Navigator CO2 Ventures. Treharne said it’ll be just another factor they have to consider in the construction of wind turbines.

NextEra’s proposed project is in the district of Supervisor Jim Jorgenson, who says reception by landowners has been mixed.

Invenergy is also be considering Floyd County for a wind farm project. Invenergy began the Chickasaw Wind Energy Center earlier this year that calls for 66 wind turbines across northern Chickasaw County, with about a dozen erected thus far.

MidAmerican Energy has since purchased that project and already owns the 50-plus wind turbines south of Charles City.
