Omnitel Installation of Broadband Fiber in Downtown Charles City Nearly Complete

After starting their initial phase in April, Nora Springs-based Omnitel Communications is closing in on completion of installing broadband fiber in downtown Charles City.

During Monday (08.07) night’s City Council meeting, City Administrator Steve Diers said most installation was wrapped up last week, although the company has some concrete patches related to the installation that need to be smoothed out. 

Diers says what direction Omnitel takes in adding broadband fiber in residential areas will depend on the demand.

Councilman Patrick Lumley noted that the project is a step in the right direction to addressing the City’s need for improved internet service.

Lumley also noted that poor internet service continues to be among the top complaints the City receives from residents and business owners.
