More Wind Turbines Coming to Floyd County?
More wind turbines could be coming to Floyd County.
During their regular meeting Monday (08.07), Floyd County Supervisor Dennis Keifer said he met last week with representatives of Invenergy about the possibility of erecting as many as 70 wind turbines in the southern section of the County near Marble Rock.Â
Invenergy is the company that started the Chickasaw Wind Energy Center, which has since been acquired by MidAmerican Energy. The project calls for installation of 66 wind turbines across the northern sections of Chickasaw County, where the first turbines began going up last week.
Supervisor Chair Mark Kuhn said the County has also been seeking to follow up with NextEra about a possible wind energy farm that company may also be pursuing in the County.Â
Supervisors agreed they’d like to get representatives from both potential projects at a future Board meeting to provide more details about their plans. Kuhn said having that information could determine if the County’s wind energy zoning ordinance warrants revisiting.
MidAmerican is the state’s largest owner of wind turbines, including 50 wind turbines in Floyd County on 16 acres south of Charles City.Â
