Free Produce Giveaways in Charles City Begins Saturday

Giveaways of free produce in Charles City begin this Saturday.

ISU Extension and Outreach Director for Floyd County, Lesley Millius, says distribution of produce to the public will be available from 10 am to noon every Saturday in August and September. She also recommends getting there earlier for the best selection.

Millius says donations of fresh produce are also welcome.

Millius adds that donations will also be accepted the morning of the produce giveaways, which will be at the Lions Rose Garden on the north side of the Cedar River, just east of Main Street.

She estimates upwards of 50 people took advantage of the produce giveaways on a weekly basis last year. Any leftovers will be donated to the Messiah Food Pantry in Charles City, which will also accept direct donations when they are open between noon and 3 pm on Wednesdays, 9 am to noon on Fridays, and new Saturday hours of 10 am to noon.
