The latest U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa issued Thursday, June 29, shows severe drought continues in northeast sections of the state, with moderate drought expanding in some areas.
Based on precipitation through 7 am Tuesday, June 27, all of Butler, Bremer and Black Hawk counties, over three-quarters of Fayette County, plus southern sections of Floyd and Chickasaw counties, remain rated in the D2/severe drought category.
Severe drought concerns also reach into eastern sections of Franklin County. Â
The majority of Floyd, Chickasaw, Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties, plus all of Worth, Mitchell, Howard and Winneshiek, along with the northern third of Fayette counties are in the D1/moderate drought category.Â
