Charles City’s “Party in the Park” Returns for 20th Year 20 Years to the Day of First Party

A Charles City summer tradition marks its 20th year by returning for the new season Friday (06.09) night, 20 years to the day of its first event.

Mayor Dean Andrews was there to help start what was initially “Party in the Park ‘Til Dark.”

Joanna Thompson is the Event Coordinator for Charles City Community Development and says there was a brief time Party in the Park’s future was uncertain.

Constants for the event over the last two decades include live music and kids games. There’s also food and beverage, which Thompson says can be paid for with their new eco-tokens.

Each eco-token costs $1.

“PIP Turns 20” is the theme for Friday night’s first “Party in the Park” for 2023 from 5 to 9 pm in Charles City’s Central Park, with music provided by the public on Karaoke Night. Thompson says there will also be prize drawings throughout the evening.

Additional Party in the Parks are planned for June 30th, July 14th and August 4th.
