Enough Lifeguards to Operate Lions Field Pool in Charles City Seven Days a Week

It’s a combination of good news, bad news for patrons of the Lions Field swimming pool in Charles City.

The good news is the City has announced that they have been able to hire enough lifeguards to be fully staffed and return the pool to being open seven days a week. The bad news is that, even as temperatures push 90 degrees for highs in the coming days, the pool will be closed the rest of the week to train those lifeguards, which will happen this weekend(the pool was open on Wednesday). The City is paying half of the costs for lifeguard certification.

Prior to the pool opening for the season on Memorial Day, the “pool” of lifeguards was going to limit operations to just five days a week. However, that situation has improved and, starting Monday, June 5th, the plan is for the pool to be open 7-days a week for the rest of the summer.
