Chickasaw County Ambulance Celebrates First EMS Week

It’s EMS Week, recognizing the efforts of emergency medical service personnel and first responders. It’s the first such week for the new Chickasaw County public ambulance service.

The Chickasaw County EMS department began operations January 1st, so having their ambulances on display at the EMS Open House, hosted this week by MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center, was one of the first opportunities for the public to see them firsthand.

That’s the EMS department’s Bridget Edson, who says the new County-run ambulance service has had a successful start thanks to those who want to be part of it.

Edson says while many ambulance services struggle to get two paramedics on staff, Chickasaw County EMS has been blessed with eight paramedics, plus15 EMTs. Still, they could always use more help.

The department currently operates with two ambulances, but County Supervisors recently approved the purchase of third rig.
