Charles City Picks Up Financing for Millrace Parking Project

Charles City officials continue to move the Mill Race Parking Project forward.

Plans call for the City to vacate Riverside Drive from South Main Street around to Clark Street, thus closing that section of the street off to regular through-traffic. The move’s two-fold purpose will make the area safer for pedestrians frequenting local businesses like The Pub, while creating more parking spaces for residents of The Union House.

During the City Council meeting May 15, retiring City Engineer John Fallis told the Council that the project also comes with a two-fold deadline for completion.

City Administrator Steve Diers also announced that the City has also received substantial financial help for the project.

The City Council has approved the next steps for the project with bed letting on June 1st and a public hearing on June 5th.
