Oelwein Police Continue Crackdown on Drug Offenders

Drug-related arrests have continued to mount over the past month in Oelwein.

With assistance from the Iowa State Patrol, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Independence Police K-9 Unit, Oelwein Police executed a search warrant just before 2 pm Tuesday (05.16) afternoon in the 200 block of 2nd Street Southeast in Oelwein. Found and seized were illegal controlled substances, leading to four subjects being taken into custody.

Arrested include 45-year-old Ronald Dean and 46-year-old Manlio Canuto Escamilla, both of Oelwein, each charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and possession of methamphetamine 3rd or subsequent offense, Class D felonies; plus keeping premises for controlled substance use, an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Escamilla was also wanted on a felony warrant for violation of probation, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Also arrested, on charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana and keeping premises for controlled substance use, were 47-year-old Christina Heins and 33-year-old Skylar Burh, also both of Oelwein. Heins was also charged with possession of meth, a serious misdemeanor. Buhr was also charged with possession of meth – third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony; plus four counts of unlawful possession of a prescription drug, serious misdemeanors.

Additional charges are pending according to Oelwein Police Chief Jeremy Logan, who issued a statement saying: “Our law enforcement team continues to focus on the illegal drug trade and illegal drug use in and around our community. If you are involved in this activity, we encourage you to reach out to us for help, otherwise, we will be knocking on your door soon.”

Since April 17th, Oelwein Police have taken the lead in executing a half dozen search warrants on various residences in Oelwein, leading to at least 17 subjects taken into custody on various drug charges.
