Jane Hermen, 76, Charles City

Jane Hermen, 76, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Pastor Patty Kellogg officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page. A burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Toys for Tots.

Jane Elaine (Rinnels) Hermen, the daughter of Ehme and Jennie (Echoff) Rinnels, was born on May 10, 1947, in Chapin, Iowa. She attended schools in Rockwell, Chapin, and Mason City. Jane was married to Clyde Parker on October 29, 1963, and to this union three children were born. The couple later divorced. She was then married to June Herman in 1970 and to this union two children were born. The couple later divorced. Jane was united in marriage to Allen Hermen in 1978 until his passing in 1979.

Jane was a proud Foster Grandparent and would often be at TLC and Washington Elementary School. She loved working on older cars, fishing, completing puzzles, and watching her TV shows. The light of her life was her grandchildren. Together they would work on model cars, play cards and board games, and make popcorn balls and rock candy. She was very supportive of all their activities and would do anything for them.

Living family members include her children: Dwuane (Denise McCarger) Parker, Vicky (Roger) Zimmerman, Brenda Terrell, Linda (Tony Lenz) Herman, and Troy (Jorge Cordova) Herman-Cordova; grandchildren: Frank Leslie, Roger Zimmerman Jr., Destinee (Gary) Grimes, Niki (Casey Jaried) Zimmerman, Brittany (Scotty Halverson) Zimmerman, Courtney Zimmerman, Jennie Terrell, Reggie (Misty) Terrell III, Dustin Terrell, Jeff (Amanda Lines) Starkey, Samantha (Mathew) Cain, Ashlee (Ethan) Mahlstedt, Angela Zappa, and Cody Zappa; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson coming in June; sister, Alice Springer; brother, Don (Connie) Rinnels; special nieces, Shelly (Jim) Ward and Brenda Kay; special nephew, Roy (Dennis) Rinnels; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Marrian Linde.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, June Herman and Alan Hermen; infant son, Ricky Dean; grandsons, John Leslie, Russel Leslie, and Randy Leslie; twin sister, June Harmon; sisters, Henreitta Benson, Judy Cassel, and Darlene Benning; brothers, Harley, John, Bobby, Marvin, Jerry, Larry, Garry, and Simon Rinnels; and special friend, Kathy Eggers.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
