Charles City Fireworks Can/Bottle Collection Site Relocated

The collection site for redeemable cans and bottles to benefit the Charles City Fireworks Fund has been relocated.

Community Development Director Mark Wicks says collection bins have moved from the parking lot next to Dollar General to the lot behind 813 North Main Street, the former City Tap building. Donors are asked to NOT leave cans and bottles in the Dollar General lot anymore.

Wicks also reminds the public that the collection bins are for redeemable cans and bottles only. Water bottles, milk jugs or other recyclables are not to be dropped off. There was a lot of misuse at the old site, including dumping of trash, old furniture and broken TVs. None of that is acceptable and causes a nuisance issue.

Mayor Dean Andrews says complaints about the unsightliness of the old collection site necessitated the move to the new site, which he hopes alleviates that issue.

Wicks adds that if misuse of the site continues, the collection bins will have to be removed altogether, so helping keep the collection site tidy is much appreciated.

All can and bottle donations go to benefit the Charles City Fourth of July Fireworks Fund.
