Charles City High School Bond Referendum Petition Language Set

Language is set for a petition drive to put a $28.5 million Charles City High School bond referendum before school district voters later this year.

During their regular meeting Monday night, School Board president Pat Rottinghaus read the one-question, two-part petition language, which lays out how the money would be used.

School Superintendent Dr. Anne Lunquist reminded the Board that the $28.5 million bond, if approved, represents the maximum they could tax for, but there’s the possibility they may not have to tax for the whole amount. 

The Board voted 5-0 to approve the petition language as presented and begin circulating the petition for signatures. About 500 signatures will be needed to put the measure before voters for this November’s general election.

The Board also set a May 23rd work session to discuss financing related to the bond referendum and the community is encouraged to attend.
