Can/Bottle Collection for Charles City 4th of July Fireworks on the Move

The location for donations of cans and bottles to help raise money for Charles City’s annual 4th of July fireworks could be moving soon.

With no redemption center currently in operation in Charles City, many more cans and bottles are being donated for fireworks at the current drop off site to the east of the Dollar General store. However, the volume of cans and bottles has become hard to keep up with.

Mayor Dean Andrews says the City has received numerous complaints about the area being messy and unsightly, despite the best efforts of the City’s can and bottle collector.

Andrews says the City hopes relocating the collection site to the area behind the former City Tap on North Main Street will reduce the problem.

Andrews adds that there’s no definitive time frame for the relocation, but when it does happen, there will be signage displayed at the current location directing can and bottle donors to the new drop off site.
