Construction of NIACC Charles City Career Academy Enters Second Week

Construction of the new Career Academy at the NIACC Center in Charles City is entering its second week.
Crews from project contractor, Woodruff Construction of Waterloo, began work Monday, April 14, to add the career academy onto the south side of the existing Charles City NIACC Center, just east of Hy-Vee.Â
Jon Mallon, Woodruff’s Northeast Regional President, spoke about the project during groundbreaking ceremonies prior to the start of construction.
Mallon says Woodruff’s core values are very similar to those of NIACC, especially in terms of service.
In addition to Charles City, the Career Academy partnership also includes the Nashua-Plainfield, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Riceville, North Butler, Clarksville and Osage school districts.Â
The construction timeline targets completion of the career academy by the end of next March, although courses in the areas of health, information technology, construction trades and advanced manufacturing won’t be available to area high school students until August of 2024.
