Last fall, Cambrex announced a $6.5 million expansion at their Charles City operations.
The multi-phase project calls for a 9,000-square-foot expansion, plus 21,000-square-foot renovation in Charles City to add a new quality control laboratory and administrative office space. Renovations will modernize the existing quality control and research and development facilities, while creating as many as 40 new jobs
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says it demonstrates Cambrex’s commitment to Charles City and workers in Iowa.
More jobs also accentuates the need for more housing, which Grassley acknowledges help is needed to spur building.
Grassley adds that Charles City also faces competition when it comes to building new homes.
Grassley was in Charles City Tuesday to host a Q & A with workers at Cambrex. He said concerns expressed by employees included renewable fuels and carbon pipeline projects, healthcare costs, gun control and the impacts on fuel prices after OPEC’s announcement this week to reduce oil production by a million barrels a day.
