Charles City 2023 “Town of Colors” Murals Won’t Include Floyd County LEC

The “Town of Colors” campaign in Charles City is entering its third year with plans in the works for the painting of new murals in 2023. However, one of the buildings they hoped to paint has been ruled out.

Two weeks ago, Floyd County EMS President Brandy Molitor approached the Board of Supervisors about having a mural on the south side of the new Floyd County Law Enforcement Center honoring emergency personnel and responders.

During their regular meeting Monday (03.27), the Board discussed public feedback on the project, largely against the murals placement. Still, Supervisor Chair Mark Kuhn saluted people for taking the time to express their concerns.

While the LEC would’ve provided a high-profile mural placement, Molitor told the Board Monday it wasn’t make or break for the project.

Among other ideas suggested for ways to honor Floyd County emergency personnel and responders included statues in and/or outside of the courthouse.

At least two other murals locations have been finalized: the Furniture Barn on South Grand Avenue and on the Clark Street side of the Kloberdanz Insurance Office in downtown Charles City.
