Three Submit Applications for Floyd County Attorney Appointment

Three applications have been submitted for possible appointment as the next Floyd County Attorney.

In February, then-County Attorney Rachel Ginbey submitted her resignation to become the County Attorney in Hancock County. Her last day as Floyd County Attorney was March 12th.

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors opted to fill the vacancy by appointment on Monday, March 27th. Those interested in the post had until March 17th to submit their application to the County.

During the Supervisors meeting Monday (03.20), County Auditor Gloria Carr identified the three candidates, including current acting and Assistant County Attorney Randy Tilton. Also submitting applications are Assistant Cerro Gordo County Attorney Brendon Moe and Charles City attorney Todd Prichard, the former state legislator who also serves as the City Attorney for the City of New Hampton.

Supervisors will interview all three candidates during the Board meeting on Monday, March 27,  before making their appointment decision.

However, any eligible elector in the County could file a petition to force a special election for the post. That petition would need at least 809 signatures and must be filed within 14 days of the actual appointment.

Ginbey’s resignation comes after she was re-elected to another four-year term this past November. Whoever is appointed would serve out the remainder of her term, which ends December 31, 2026.
