Friday Deadline for New Hampton Police Chief Applications

Applications to become the next New Hampton Police Chief are due by this Friday (03.24).

The City is looking for a successor to Zach Nosbisch, who left the NHPD in early March after four-and-a-half years at the helm to become Chief Deputy with the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, where he had worked previously as a deputy from 2013 until he became New Hampton Police Chief in the fall of 2018.

The City’s initial deadline for applications was February 24th, resulting in six applications and interviews with five of the candidates. However, Mayor Bobby Schwicklerath said City officials decided more time was needed to make a hiring decision.

As of Wednesday, Schwickerath said three new candidates had submitted applications and a couple of the initial applicants have reapplied this go round.  One candidate was slated to be interviewed this week, with more interviews expected next week, when Schwickerath says the City hopes to make a hire.

Applications are still being accepted by the City of New Hampton until 5 pm for Friday.

Until a permanent replacement is named, Sergeant Paul Scally is serving as interim police chief. He has been in law enforcement since 2001 and has been with the NHPD since 2009.

Monday night, the City Council approved Scally’s request for extra pay while serving as police chief. Schwickerath says Scally will be paid an  extra one-third of the weekly salary the City pays the permanent police chief.
